Having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card!

You know how much easier, more convenient, faster, and cheaper it is to get something electronically?  Don’t hate technology just for the sake of hating it.

Reblogging cuz fuck the haters. Technology is fantastic. Remember when we used to have to build fires to cook our dinners? No because someone invented the oven and then the microwave. Remember when we used to have to worry about long distance charges to talk to people far away? That was a long ass time ago because someone made the internet and cell phones and stuff. GET OVER IT.

It’s sad that some people think this cartoon refers to the entirety of technology, rather than the specific slice of accessing books and movies in hard copy rather than digital. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic that we have the technology & availability of digital media to promote easy transfer of data; I’ll be right alongside you if someone tries to shout down technology in general.
What’s important about this is that we don’t forget the physical entities that provide us with the digital media. Books were written on pages, that were then scanned into computers; movies were recorded onto film, before they could be stored in purely digital formats; photographs were developed from negatives and had finite usage, before they were able to be stored immediately on memory devices.
In the immortal (and only slightly relevant to the direct topic at hand) words of Lisa Simpson: “I want to share some things with you that have really meant a lot to me… please don’t deprive yourself of wonderful books, like To Kill A Mockingbird, Harriet the Spy and Yertle the Turtle (possibly the best book ever written on the subject of turtle stacking). Beauty is all around us, and not just in pageants and parlours; you can find it in the swirl of galaxies, or the swirl in the centre of a sunflower… So please, I beg you, don’t take your brain for granted; it’s the best friend you’ll ever have.”
In using that quote, I only really wanted to say that what we have stored in technology is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to mental stimulation; go forth and reap the knowledge housed in your local library!

^ i agree.
for me, e-readers or kindles (which is what i’m assuming this post is about) - or other technological alternatives can never replace the authenticity of a book.
